Designated Emphases

Designated Emphasis Program

Study of Religion students may choose to pursue an area of specialization called a "Designated Emphasis" in one of the areas listed below.   Similar to a minor for undergrads, the Designated Emphasis is awarded in conjunction with the Ph.D. degree and is signified by a transcript designation; for example, "Ph.D. in the Study of Religion with a Designated Emphasis in Critical Theory."  For more general information about DEs, please see the graduate studies website.

Students must declare their D.E. formally using a graduate studies form submitted at least 1 quarter before the Qualifying Exam.  All courses must be completed for the D.E. in advance of sitting for the qualifying exam.
