The GREL welcomes Brent Horning, our newest graduate student.

Passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration, he is interested in using ethnographic methods in tandem with language study, archival research and manuscript translation. Photos from his fieldwork have been included in a national touring exhibition and other photography contests. His research interests lie in the intersecting South Asian traditions that influenced medieval Vajrayana Buddhism, and translating associated song/poems such as the Charyapada collection. He is excited about integrating into UC Davis. the Graduate Program in the Study of Religion, and the Department of Religious Studies. Brent is the recipient of the Provost Fellowship for 2024-2025.
